Constitutional Crisis Looms In Ondo Over 2024 Budget Presentation To State Assembly
David Olayinka, Ondo
Ondo State may soon be enmeshed in serious constitutional crisis following the obvious love lost between the associates of the ailing state Governor, Arakunrin Rotimi Akeredolu (SAN) and those of the state Deputy Governor, Lucky Aiyedatiwa.
Ever since the Governor was hurriedly packaged to Nigeria from where he was receiving treatment in a foreign hospital, he had been operating from his personal house in Oyo State, indicating that he wasn’t strong enough to discharge his duties from the Akure Government House for now.
The State House of Assembly had rebuffed all attempts by well meaning stakeholders in the state to pronounce Aiyedatiwa, acting governor, pending when Akeredolu would be medically fit to discharge his responsibilities as governor from the state’s seat of power.
A foremost constitutional lawyer and Senior Advocat of Nigeria, Dr. Kayode Ajulo, has however alerted Nigerians to a possible constitutional Crisis that might soon engulfed the sunshine state, any moment from now.
Ajulo, in a post on his verified social media page on Saturday has drawn the attention of the right thinking Nigerians and critical stakeholders in the Ondo State politics to the fact that there is nobody on ground in the state that is constitutionally empowered to present the 2024 budget to the state House of Assembly.
Ajulo wrote, “I urge you all to take a few moments to consider the government and the well-being of the people in Ondo State.
“Given the current political situation, there is a significant concern that there will be no one available to present the State’s budget.
“The consequence of this could be widespread hunger and poverty, which will have a profound impact on the State’s population. -Dr Kayode Ajulo, OON, SAN”
Meanwhile, close observers of the Ondo State politics are keenly expecting the consequences of such actions in days ahead.

Ogun LG Polls, Peaceful, Orderly
Feranmi Daniel, Abeokuta
The ongoing local government polls in Ogun State got off to a good start on Saturday. This newspaper can exclusively report.
Election into chairmanship and councillorship positions are currently ongoing in the 20 local government councils of the state, with the major political parties, including the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC), Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), Labour Party (LP) and the New Nigeria Peoples Party (NNPP) saying that they will have a good showing.
In the polling units surveyed in major cities such as Abeokuta, the state capital; Ijebu Ode, Sagamu, Ota and Ilaro, election materials arrived on schedule even as voters expressed confidence that the exercise would be concluded without any hassles.
Findings by reporters across the state have not shown any incident of voter harassment or ballot box snatching so far.
This contradicts the false alarm raised by a major opposition party in the state to the effect that the election has been bedevilled by violence.
Some voters, however, complained of late arrival of materials even as officials of the Ogun State Independent Electoral Commission (OGSIEC) interviewed across the state said materials have reached all polling units in the State and they expected voters to come out in large numbers and exercise their franchise.
